The honeymoon is over for cloud computing

After a year of pandemic-driven hype, the honeymoon may be over for clouds like Amazon Web Services. Experts from Wall Street and Silicon Valley warn that cloud customers are getting more cautious. AWS is a $59 billion business and still growing, but the conversation among customers is changing. It didn’t take long for cloud computing to disrupt the entire IT industry: Over the span of about a decade, the conversation in the tech industry largely went from “Why should I use the cloud instead of my own data centers?” to “How fast can I do it?” Or, as Deloitte’s chief cloud strategy officer David Linthicum put it, cloud has become the de facto standard for IT.
