Strong demand for Microsoft Azure and Office 365 cloud services boosted the company’s profits 27.8 percent last quarter, Microsoft announced Thursday. Net income was $4.8 billion, or 61 cents per share, in the third quarter of the 2017 fiscal year, which ended March 31. That’s up from $3.76 billion, or 47 cents per share, in the same quarter last year.

Although still primarily associated with smartphones and, sometimes, tablets, Android has long outgrown that limited device category. Driven by the success of its cloud computing services, Microsoft on Thursday said profits during its fiscal third quarter jumped nearly 30%. “Strong execution and demand for our cloud-based services drove our commercial cloud annualized revenue run rate to more than $15.2 billion,” Amy Hood, EVP and chief financial officer at Microsoft, said in an earnings statement.
